Just yesterday, Cal-FFL, along with our friends at The Calguns Foundation, launched and the STOP SB 249 campaign, a grassroots effort to educate the public on the dangerous Senate Bill 249 authored by California Senator Leland Yee (San Francisco). As you may have heard, the bill was referred out of the Rules Committee and to the Assembly Public Safety Committee. This means that we must consider the bill moving forward - not good news.

SB 249 has the potential of rendering nearly every single off-list lower, registered “assault weapon,” and other firearms and parts unlawful to import into this state, make, sell, loan, transfer or possess.  Under SB 249, it's possible that a person could violate the Penal Code without even owning or possessing a firearm.  It could even shutter gun dealers and sporting goods retailers.

If passed, SB 249 would very literally put tens (if not hundreds) of thousand of Californians at risk of civil and criminal liability - even the outright loss of firearms.  However, we don't need to face that reality - with your help, we can engage our entire culture in this battle to protect our Second Amendment rights and STOP SB 249.  To get you started, we've created a Take Action web page at the Stop SB 249 campaign website that lists some of the things you can do to stand up, be counted, and get others active in our efforts.  I've also included them below (under the Read More link).

I know many of you like to dig into the details, so at the request of Cal-FFL and CGF, attorney Jason Davis prepared an extensive legal analysis of SB 249 which you can view and download at this link.  I urge you to take a few minutes to read it and see for yourself how this nasty piece of.... legislation could affect you, and maybe even your family business.  (Note: it's 19 pages, but certainly worth every one of them).

Stopping SB 249 is not going to be easy by any means, but I'm confident that - together - we will have a very real impact.  Cal-FFL, our members, and California gun owners are not going to sit idly by and let Sacramento ram another expansive gun control bill down our throats - and with, we're making it easy for you to stand up for, and exercise, your rights.

The time to act is now - so let's roll up our sleeves and get to work.  As always, we thank you for your continuing support.
In liberty,
